Websites

I started exploring web design in 1996. One of my first projects was, in a class on Tibetan iconography, to make a website about the symbolism of Mahakala instead of a regular term paper. In 2000, I took an entry-level office job at The Center for Contemplative Mind in Society. They needed a website; I liked making websites; I made them a website. Over the years, designing and managing the expanding website became my job (as well as designing materials, e-newsletters, publications, and so forth). At the end of 2009 I stopped working full-time for The Center, but still work for them (and continue to manage the website) as a freelancer, and am now taking on other web work on a freelance basis. I especially like x/html, css, WordPress, and Expression Engine.

Here are a few links to websites I’ve designed and built. If you would like to inquire about having me make a website for you, please email carrie@bergmansbear.com.

www.contemplativemind.org

For a national non-profit organization; built by hand with xhtml and css. The site is essentially a large online brochure for the organization, with information on its programs and activities. Reports and publications (many of which I designed and formatted) are available to download. I also create e-newsletters, event-specific websites, and various other web and print materials for the Center for Contemplative Mind in Society.

www.acmhe.org

An initiative of the Center for Contemplative Mind in Society, this professional association needed a simple website to accept membership applications and event registrations, with a design reminiscent of www.contemplativemind.org. This site was also built by hand with xhtml and css. I am currently working on a branding/identity project for the ACMHE, which will include modifications to the site design. My work for them also includes print and e-newsletter design.

www.renetheberge.com

Rene, a photographer, needed a site to display his images. I kept the design simple to showcase the gorgeous colors and textures in his photographs. (Rene did not desire an online shopping cart for print orders, but I have worked with Google Checkout and PayPal for both the ACMHE and Contemplative Mind.)

www.yowp.org

This website displays the audio and 2D work created by young people around the world who have attended interfaith creativity workshops which focus on dealing with war, peace, liberation, and suffering. The site allows visitors to upload their own artwork (which can be displayed on the site after being reviewed by project staff, since the primary audience includes children and young adults).
